SOLAR ASSISTED FORCED AIR HEATING
If your home or business is heated with a forced air furnace, you can significantly cut your heating bills by using a hot water system that heats the air that is sent through the air ducts.
To achieve a forced air heating solar assist, a fan coil is installed in the existing duct system. Multiple zones can be accommodated. The solar heated water is circulated through the fan coil. A low-medium speed fan runs, more-or-less, continuously but is controlled to maintain the desired temperature. A sensor allows the controls to isolate the fan coil when the solar heated water is not hot enough to contribute, so as to keep the system from removing heat from the building.
The result is the delivery of a constant flow of heated air into the building in the 90-125° F range which reduces or eliminates the need to run your furnace. While this constant flow of heat may at times be not much above human body temperature and therefore not feel "hot" at the vent, it is sufficient to satisfy the thermostat and maintain comfortable conditions within the home or building. At any time that more heat is needed, the furnace can provide supplemental heating.

For space heating, we recommend the drainback, open loop system. Its advantage over all other confirgurations is year-long, safe, automatic operation in any climate. This system will not boil or freeze. Unlike the simpler, direct systems, the tank water is heated via a heat exchanger. After the system collects all available sunlight, the heat transfer fluid -usually plain water- drains back and stores in a tank, thus preventing freezing in the collector. Domestic water heating options can be readily added to this system.
Custom-made Solar Thermal Mass Storage Tanks options include a space-saving,
rectangular stainless steel tank or a concrete tank buried underground.
Both tanks are equipped with inner copper heat exchangers.

SOLAR RADIANT HEAT CONVERSIONS

Using our green philosophy for design, we can eliminate the boiler traditionally used for radiant heat systems and distribute the solar heated water directly from a hot water storage tank. The rectangular storage tank is custom-designed to fit into available space in your home.
Since New Mexico has few cloudy days, the design works very efficiently and will save you the cost of a boiler. On the rare days that supplemental heat is needed, we design the system to automatically switch over to your forced air furnace. If you prefer to replace your furnace with a boiler for backup, we can do that too.
For delivering the radiant heat, we have two conversion solutions available. The first technique is to lay radiant heat flooring over your existing base flooring which will raise the floor by a few inches. If your home is built on a crawl space, the radiant system can be installed under the floor.
The second and most economical solution is to install radiant baseboard heat. Mirasol Solar Energy uses RadiantPanel, solar radiant baseboards, which are new, cutting-edge technology for solar heating. The design is simple and economical but effective.

floor base board, towel warmer, and room radiator.
 
 
RadiantPanel is designed to force heat across the floor and maintain a higher temperature at floor level while not allowing the heat to stratify up underneath the ceiling. RadiantPanel also uses lower temperatures for safer operation, especially in homes where children live. A Bright Idea 
Tankless water heating systems work great with solar! The solar system preheats your water, applies the right pressure to move the hot water quickly to each faucet and you save lots of money on your energy bill!
If a big Solar Thermal or PV system is a little too much of an investment for you, start small. Just heating your domestic water with a Solar Thermal System can mean big savings for you.
Photovoltaic systems for making electricity can start small too. A LITTLE GREEN
GOES A LONG WAY
Find little, inventive ways to save energy. Look at all the appliances you use and how you use them. You may find that some of your habits are small energy wasters like small leaks in a boat. You can plug up those holes for big energy savings with little changes, such as:
You may love your Pamela Anderson screen saver but she is not an energy saver. Screen savers continue to use the monitor at full power and do not conserve energy. Remember - manually turning monitors off is always the better energy-saving strategy.
Consider resetting your printer margins narrower and using a smaller font to reduce the paper that you use, and the trees that are cut down and energy used to ship the extra paper you are wasting.
When it is time to upgrade your computer, consider a laptop. They are much more energy efficient than a desktop model.
Move halogen lamps away from the air conditioning thermostat. The heat produced by the light will make your air conditioner run longer than is necessary.
Plant tall, creeping vines on the western wall of your home. They will reduce the afternoon heat on your house in the summer but let the heat through when the plant drops its leaves in the winter.
Speaking of plants, bamboo makes a great natural fence, can grow a foot a day and absorbs huge amounts of carbon dioxide.
Buy locally grown, raised and produced goods to avoid trucking.
Plan a green wedding: get your cake at a local bakery, order seasonal flowers, and buy wine from a local vintner.
